Jan Agar Bergeron, VMD
Dr Bergeron is a 1966 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, School of Veterinary Medicine. He did post-doctoral work in hematology at the U of PA, School of Medicine, followed by research work in private industry. He served on the faculty of Duke University Medical School where he taught histology and managed a primate research colony.
Dr Bergeron's experience in veterinary medicine is both broad and eclectic. He has practiced equine medicine, zoo animal medicine, and was an editor for American Veterinary Publications. Following this, he worked as a diagnostic pathologist for the states of Montana and Florida, and for a private pathology laboratory in Dallas, Texas. He is a former Associate Editor of The Merck Veterinary Manual and was responsible for producing the Electronic Version of the seventh edition of that publication.
Dr Bergeron is semi-retired and does freelance editing, technical writing, desktop publishing, and Web site design and hosting. He has a strong interest in computers, electronic publishing, HTML programming, and the use of the World Wide Web as an educational tool. He is also the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association. He is a member of The Association for Veterinary Informatics, The American Veterinary Medical Association, and The American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association.
Dr Bergeron developed his interest in complementary and alternative medicine through personal experience with alternative therapies, participation in several internet mailing lists, and through email correspondence with Dr Susan Wynn. He is largely responsible for the establishment, design and maintenance of the AltVetMed Web Site, and Dr Wynn is primarily responsible for the content.
