About the AltVetMed Site
This page will give you general information about the AltVetMed Web site and how to use it. If you have questions, or if you have difficulty finding things, come back to this page to see if the answer to your question is here, or go to the FAQ page.
Background
The AltVetMed Web site was launched in January 1996, with the intended purpose to provide sound, basic information on complementary and alternative therapies in veterinary medicine. We have always tried to be honest about the information we present and to avoid "hype." You will not find every single modality used by CAVM practitioners covered here, largely because we do not feel that we have sufficient information to cover those topics. However, this does not mean a particular modality is invalid because it is not covered.
The site was founded and is still managed by Jan Agar Bergeron, VMD, in collaboration with Susan Gayle Wynn, DVM. More information about Dr Bergeron and Dr Wynn may be found by clicking on their names, which will take you to their individual biographies.
The AltVetMed site has been designed to make navigation as simple as possible. There are key pages listed on the main menu bar, which appears at the top of every page just under the logo. If for some reason you have trouble viewing anything on this site, we strongly urge you to upgrade to the latest version of your particular browser. If you use an Internet provider such as AOL or Compuserve that has a browser built into their software, you can still use the latest versions of Internet Explorer, Netscape, or Opera. Check with your service provider to find out how. You can download free copies of the latest versions of Netscape Communicator or Internet Explorer by clicking on the buttons below.
We also use JavaScript (and occasionally Java) for certain functions on this Web site. You should have these functions enabled in your browser.
Because the menu bar and logo will always be visible on AltVetMed pages, you will always know when you are on the AltVetMed site and you will always be able to find your way back to one of the key pages. All on-site content will be displayed in the main window or in a pop-up window, whereas all off-site content will open in a new browser window.
For example, clicking on "Articles" on the menu bar above will open a page containing a list of articles written especially for AltVetMed, in this window. Clicking on the title of the article you want to read will open it in a pop-up window. After reading the article, you can get back to the list of articles by closing the window containing the article.
